French Tax Breaks for Video Game Makers
I read an article on 1up today reporting that France's cultural minister wants video games to be considered works of art alongside things like "cinema" and paintings. This has implications far beyond philosophy classes and French bistro conversations. If French video games are marked as “art” then companies like Ubisoft and Vivendi Universal would be entitled to the same huge tax breaks that movie companies receive. Tax breaks can mean fatter profit margins, but most likely investment into French game designers and programmers. I’ll be keeping a very close eye this story!
